Year 2 visit the common

As part of our project this term called Wild Woods we have visited Southampton Common on a few occasions.

We read The Minpins by Roald Dahl whilst in the woodland setting and we had the chance to act out different parts of the story.

We enjoyed playing on the common and taking part in PE activities in this big, open space. We also investigated all the different things we could find when using quadrat and made a tally of our results.

Year 1 Sea Dance

For 6 weeks all the children in year 1 worked with Belinda, a dance teacher, to create an “Under The Sea” themed dance. Each week we learned new moves which we built up into a routine.

Finally we dressed up as Captain Hook and Tinkerbell to perform the whole dance. It was really hard, but great fun!

Year 2 go to the Football Stadium

As a part of our project Zim, we have been learning about being healthy.

Year 2 took a trip to Southampton Football Club to learn more. We were given a guided tour of the stadium.

We enjoyed looking at the pitch, changing rooms and trophies won by the club. We asked questions to help us understand more and learnt about how the players keep fit.

We then played games to learn about the different food groups and how much of eat type we should eat. We designed a healthy dinner.

Poetry week

The whole school were very excited to have a whole week dedicated to Poetry.

Each year group learnt and performed a different poem to the school.

We were also lucky to have been visited by a working poet called Issa Farrah. He was inspiring to watch and encouraged the children to write their own poetry.  

Some children were lucky enough to be a part of a poetry workshop ran by him.



Reading partners

 In Years 1 and 2, we paired up to share the stories we had been writing in class.

The Year 2 children enjoyed being the 'teachers' and being good role models for the Year 1 children. The Year 1 children enjoyed performing Charlie and the Chocolate factory which they had learnt by heart.

Christmas celebrations

We invited the parents in to watch our Christmas performance. We sang songs and told the Christmas story.
