Strawberry picking

Nursery went to pick strawberries on Thursday. We enjoyed being able to choose the strawberries we wanted to eat.

We were very lucky with the weather, it didn't rain...until we got on the coach!

Nursery Chicks

In the Nursery, we incubated eggs. We watched them hatch out.

We took the chicks back to Manor Farm and later we went to visit the farm.

Year 1 visit Harnham School

We have been so lucky to have a school link with Harnham School in Salisbury.

Their Year 1 children visited us at Maytree, so on Monday it was our chance to visit them.

We collected 10 interesting items from their forest school.

 We boogied in the hall.

We played in the playground.

Their school is very different to ours. They have 2 playgrounds, 2 woodland areas, 2 fields, a pond and a view of Salisbury Cathedral!

We had such fun meeting our friends again and we have been making them cards and messages back at school.

Welsh National Opera Workshop

Year one were very lucky to be visited by the Welsh National Opera. We joined in with a two hour workshop, where we learnt about Opera, tried out different musical instruments and practised some of our own songs.

Press play below to listen to us singing a new song that we learnt all about the story of the princess and the pea.

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra

On Tuesday 12th June the Mini Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra came to visit us.

They played us lots of music to do with the
Olympics. We heard some special music from
different countries and music about different sports.

They told us about the instruments they were playing and how they made noises. We even had a go ourselves!

We had to join in with the songs and do some
actions.

Woodland Area

At Maytree we are lucky to have a lovely woodland area which we are very proud of. We can use this area for many activities.

It is a great place for exploring the trees and mini beasts using our senses. We can go here if we want a quiet place or it can provide a fun play time.

Mrs Case has spent a lot of time developing the area and even runs an after school woodland club.

We go there to read our favourite stories.

We join in with drama activities.

We sometimes use the woodland area to sketch and relax.

Visit to the Common

On Friday 1st June Year One had a trip to Southampton Common.

We sketched what we could see and did tree rubbings.

We played in the park.

We explored the Hawthorn Centre, whilst there we learnt about the habitat on the Common and all the wildlife that can be seen. We used our senses to explore some of the things that can be found, like feathers, bark and fir cones.

We explored the wildlife garden and produced brass rubbings.

A Royal Celebration

The whole country has been celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee this weekend.

We took part in the celebrations last week by doing a range of Jubilee activities.

On Friday the whole school took part in a Jubilee celebration.

We decorated our classrooms.

We had an exciting assembly wearing our crowns and waving our flags.

Every class had a picnic around the different outside areas of our school.
