Sam and Odo

We had some special visitors to Maytree School. They are called Sam and Odo. Sam stands for School Attendance Matters, sometimes he visits us at the gate and gives us stamps for coming to School. Odo stands for Odd Days Off, if children take the odd day off for no good reason it means they might miss important parts of their learning.

Give them a wave next time you see them!

Eid celebrations in the Nursery

On Wednesday 7th November we had Eid parties. An aunty stayed to put mehndi on children's hands, some children wore special clothes and some children had their faces painted. We danced (sometimes with scarves) and we had special party food.

Thank you to all the parents who brought in food.

Project outcome

To finish our seaside project, Year 2 had a seaside party. Mrs Frost and Mrs Sotamaa-Lawrence performed a Punch and Judy show... this made us laugh a lot! We sang seaside songs and even had some ice cream!

Julie Sykes

The children at Maytree were lucky to have Julie Sykes visit for the day.

Before she came to visit, we read lots of her stories and found out some information about her.

Some of her books include; Dora's Eggs, I don't want to go to bed, The Pet Sitter, Smudge and
This and That.

We enjoyed listening to her read her stories and some children even got the chance to be authors for the day!

Seaside Research

As part of the Year 2 project on the seaside we watched and performed a Punch and Judy show. We used some specially made puppets to entertain our
friends.

We also researched the seaside 100 years ago on the laptops and made clay sea shells like we ones we found on Bournemouth beach.

Seaside Project

As part of our project on the Seaside, Year 2 were lucky to have access to lots of objects that they would have used or worn at the seaside 100 years ago.

We had to take care when handling these artefacts as some were delicate and very old.

There was an old fashioned bathing suit, bucket and spade, beach toys, a sun hat, photographs and more!

School nurses visit Year 1

As part of Year one's project on 'All about me' the school nurses came to visit the children. They talked about what a school nurse does.

Year 1 visit to the hospital

Year 1 took a trip to the Royal South Hants Hospital to talk to some nurses and doctors. We changed into some 'scrubs' and found out how to wash our hands.

Builders in Year 1

As part of the year 1 project called 'all about me', we had some builders come in to talk to us about their job. We also got the chance to try on hats, masks and jackets.

Mrs Sotamaa-Lawrence was lucky to spot two woodpeckers, who were being noisy in our woodland area!

If you look carefully enough you might spot some something special too!

Golden ticket draw!

On the last day of term we had a special assembly to celebrate good attendence and excellent behaviour.

Children who have been trying really hard with their behaviour get to put a golden ticket in the raffle tube. Mrs Hawkins and Mrs Goatley were excited to choose children to win special prizes for always choosing the right behaviour.

Two lucky children even won a bike! Well done!

Maytree torch relay!

To celebrate the Olympics and to get into the spirit of the games, the whole school held a torch relay. We had great fun cheering and celebrating this tradition with our friends.

Year 2 leavers' assembly

It was an emotional day when the year 2 children left Maytree School to move up to year 3.

They did an amazing assembly where they recapped the projects they had done over the year, they sang us some songs, acted and showed us some of their work.

We will miss them at Maytree but are sure they will enjoy their new school.

A Special Visitor

Miss Olver brought in her Labrador Flash to meet the children in Year One. They were very excited to meet him!

Nursery trip

The Nursery took all the children to Royal Victoria Country Park over two days. On one of the days, the train would not move... so Mrs Curtis and Mr Ellis had to help push it!

The children had a good run around the park and got to play with the shells and stones on the beach.
They had a great day.

Grandparents day

On Thursday 12th July we had a special Grandparents celebration day. Grandparents were invited in to spend the morning with their grand children.

We talked about different celebrations that we take part in and we enjoyed learning about our similarities and differences.
